Volunteer Role Descriptions

Head Coach (fulfills volunteer obligation)
Head Coaches are responsible for their players, parents & coaching staff. Responsible for leading practices & games and ensure Good Sportsmanship. Supported by Assistant Coaches, Team Parent, and Division VP. Required to complete:

  • Volunteer Application (including JDP Background Check)
  • LiveScan Fingerprinting (if not done before)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training
  • SafeSport/Abuse Awareness Certification
  • Concussion Protocol Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Diamond Leader Training Program (recommended, required only for tournament coaches)
Assistant Coach (fulfills volunteer obligation)
All teams have two official Assistant Coaches. Responsible for supporting the Head Coach, assisting in practices & games, and ensuring Good Sportsmanship. Supported by Head Coach and Team Parent. Required to complete:

  • Volunteer Application (including JDP Background Check)
  • LiveScan Fingerprinting (if not done before)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training
  • SafeSport/Abuse Awareness Certification
  • Concussion Protocol Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Diamond Leader Training Program (recommended, required only for tournament coaches)
Team Parent (fulfills volunteer obligation)
All teams have one Team Parent. Responsible for ensuring all volunteer requirements are met for the team and all families have signed up for at least 2 Snack Shack shifts. Reports to LGLL Team Parent Coordinator. May also include coordination for end of season team party, coach's gift, etc. Required to complete:

  • Volunteer Application (including JDP Background Check)
  • LiveScan Fingerprinting (if not done before)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training
  • SafeSport/Abuse Awareness Certification
  • Concussion Protocol Certification
Snack Shack Volunteer (minimum of 2 shifts + one other volunteer shift fulfills volunteer obligation)
We need adult volunteers to help staff the snack shack. This involves set-up, food prep, transactions, and tear down depending on the shift. It also involves manning the BBQ on weekdays and weekends. The snack shack is by far the most popular shift and is usually what all our kids remember during the season. It's also a main fundraiser for the league which carries significant importance. Required to complete:

  • Volunteer Application (including JDP Background Check)
Member of LGLL Board of Directors ("League Administration" when selecting role - fulfills volunteer obligation)
The Board of Directors makes Lincoln Glen Little League run. Board members serve in various roles, and time and responsibilities vary with every role. Responsible for area of defined role and attending monthly or bi-monthly Board meetings. Required to complete:

  • Volunteer Application (including JDP Background Check)
  • LiveScan Fingerprinting (if not done before)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training
  • SafeSport/Abuse Awareness Certification
  • Concussion Protocol Certification
Field Maintenance (1 shift + 2 Snack Shack shifts fulfills volunteer obligation)
Field Maintenance volunteers are responsible for completing a shift at a scheduled "Field Day." Field Days are where we roll our sleeves up and work out at River Glen Park for a few hours. Painting, hanging banners, cleaning dugouts, pulling weeds, etc.

All applicants subject to a criminal record check will have their fingerprints retained by the CA DOJ and searched against other fingerprints on file, including latent fingerprints. Also, all applicants have a right to obtain a copy of their criminal history record, if any. An applicant has the right to challenge the accuracy and completeness of their criminal history record and to obtain a determination as to the validity of their record before the agency makes a final determination concerning their eligibility for adoption, employment, certification, licensing, or permitting.

We realize that not all families are able to meet the above volunteer commitments.  Therefore, during on-line registration, you may elect to “buy-out” this obligation with a $500 donation to the League. 

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer Requirements for the 2024 Season

1. Volunteer Applications: All volunteers must select your volunteer role HERE. If you do not already have an account, go to lincolnglenbaseball.com and create one. Then go to the above link. You also have an opportunity to select your volunteer role during the registration process for your player. (For board members, select the "League Administrator" role). You will be required to upload a copy of your Driver's License, read/approve some forms, and answer some questions relating to a background check. Shortly thereafter, you will receive an email from JDP inviting you to submit a volunteer application online at JDP. Please check your spam folder before reaching out to us.  This must be completed before they begin any practices. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Jones at [email protected].

2. LiveScan Fingerprinting: All managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must complete LiveScan fingerprinting. This must be completed before they begin any practices. All NEW (if you previously completed a Livescan for LGLL, then you do not need to repeat this process) managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members can bring their Live Scan form Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. to WGMS Media Center or directly to Verify Group located at 262 E Hamilton Ave Suite A, Campbell, CA 95008 for fingerprinting. They are open M-F and on Saturdays, and you should call to make sure someone is available before you head there. (408) 761-2156. You can also book an appointment online at https://verifygroup.com.  The league will pay for this cost for all volunteers.

3.  Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training: All managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must complete the “Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training” free online training located at https://epsavealife.org/sca-prevention-training/.  This online training will take about 20 minutes. When completed, managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must upload their certificates to your LGLL account on Sport Connect. This must be completed before they begin any practices.

·         completion certificate will be provided immediately; download it and upload certificate to SportsConnect account

 

4. Safe Sport Act/Abuse Awareness: All managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must complete the “Abuse Awareness for Adults” free online training located at https://usabdevelops.com/memberships/131/login this online training will take about 30 minutes. When completed, managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must upload their certificates to their Sport Connect account. This must be completed before they begin any practices.

Helpful hints for Safe Sport/Abuse Awareness

·         create login

·         search for “abuse awareness for adults” → enroll → go to course → start course

·         mostly text based; 10 question quiz at the end

·         certificate of completion will be emailed; download it and upload certificate to SportsConnect account

 

5. Concussion Protocol: All managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must complete the “Concussion in Sports” free online training located at https://www.cifstate.org/sports-medicine/concussions/index. This online training will take about 45 minutes. When completed, managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must upload their certificates to your LGLL account on Sport Connect. This must be completed before they begin any practices.

Helpful hints for Concussion Protocol

·         select your state → order course

·         register; select concussion courses → “concussion in sports”

·         select your state → order course (again); complete additional info

·         select your state → order course (again); select “I will be completing this course” → begin course → let the ad(s) play then training will start (video clips)

·         quiz at the end; complete course eval in order to receive the certificate; download it and upload certificate to SportsConnect account

6. Umpiring Requirement: All AA, AAA and Head Coaches will be assigned 2 games to umpire in case our Umpire in Chief is unable to fill a game. (You will not be allowed to umpire your own game.)   

7. CPR: At least one person from each coaching staff (Team) needs to be certified with CPR. We offer the online CPR course via Simple CPR free of charge. The certification is good for two years. Please contact Christianne Paraz ([email protected]), our Safety Officer, and she will send you a link to the course. When completed, please upload your certification to your LGLL account on Sport Connect. This must be completed before they begin any practices.

8. Compliance Tracking: All volunteers must register through SportsConnect.  Before beginning any practices, all managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and board members must complete the “Abuse Awareness for Adults” free online training through USA baseball.  When completed, the volunteer must upload their certificates to their SportsConnect account. One point person per division will be assigned to monitor compliance with this requirement as follows:

    • President-Board of Directors
    • VP Umpires-Umpires
    • VP Juniors-Juniors managers, coaches, and volunteers
    • VP Majors-Majors managers, coaches, and volunteers
    • VP Minors-AAA and AA managers, coaches, and volunteers**
    • VP Farm-Farm and A managers, coaches, and volunteers**
    • T-Ball- T-Ball managers, coaches, and volunteers**
    • VP Team Parents-all team parents

The above must be completed before Opening Day.

9. Diamond Leader Training Program:  All managers and coaches are encouraged to sign up for the Diamond Leader Training Program which is a FREE educational resource that provides coaches with an understanding of the impact that mental, social, and emotional well-being has in youth sports through detailed information, interactive scenarios, and a variety of additional resources. Learn more and sign up today at LittleLeague.org/DiamondLeader.  Starting with the 2023 season, completion of the Little League Diamond Leader Program will be required for any coach and/or manager to be eligible to participate at any level of the Little League International Tournament.

Additional Info

Anyone wishing to manage, coach or be a team parent this season can check the appropriate box in the team staff section of the registration system.  You will be able to complete your background check directly with JDP (the Little League International approved background check company).  Please make sure to include your driver’s license as one of your proof of residency as it is required to complete the background check. We also offer options to volunteer in our Snack Shack, Field Prep Days, and other special events throughout the season.

Please remember that Little League is an all-volunteer organization, dependent upon parents willing to volunteer to make our league work and become stronger. Within this registration process, you will have opportunities to volunteer for different positions and activities such as coaching or running the snack shack. All families are required to fulfill 3 volunteer shifts, 2 of which must be in the Snack Shack. If you choose to opt out of volunteering, a $500.00 payment is required. All volunteers must register in our system for their specific role(s).

All families will need to create an account prior to completing their first registration within the system. In subsequent years, you may log in with your account information to register. Once you create your account, add the secondary guardian info as well as child info to the account. Once you complete these steps, you will be prompted to register your child(ren) for our Spring programs. Fill out all required fields (marked with an asterisk). Register all players in your family and then proceed to check out. You can pay with your credit card. You will receive a confirmation email and as well as confirmation screen page.

You are always able to log back into your account to modify personal information and view registration status and required documents.
