Player Agent - Roles & Responsibilities

The Player Agent, Little League is a voting member of the Lincoln Glen Little League and is expected to attend a majority of the board meetings.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Player Agent – Little League shall:

1. Oversee evaluations for all Little League divisions, the Tryout Coordinator is responsible for the organization of volunteers to staff the evaluation day and ensure an orderly and timely transfer of the information to the Player Agent. As the Tryout Coordinator has no input in the actual evaluation and team selection process, the Tryout Coordinator may be a manager or coach in any of our divisions. Per Little League bylaws, “The player agent must not manage, coach or umpire in the division over which he/she has authority, unless the local league has received explicit written permission to allow this from Little League International.”

2. Maintain the integrity of the Rating System, this involves maintaining confidentiality of the ratings and ensuring those ratings are used to create teams of equivalent talent within a given division.

3. Determine the amount of teams the League will have at all the different levels based on signups and results from evaluations.

4. Oversee implementation of the Draft Process, specifically working to ensure that all teams in a given division at the start of a season have equivalent player talent.

5. Coordinate and maintain the integrity of the All Star Selection Process, this includes managing balloting for majors players, coordinating the All Star selection process including any All Star tryouts and preparing affidavit materials for all All Star teams.

6. Receive and review applications for player candidates and assist the President in verifying residence and age eligibility.

7. Supervise and coordinate the transfer of players between divisions of Little League according to the provisions of Little League Baseball.

Time Commitment:

1. 10 monthly board meetings of approximately 2 hours per meeting.

2. Work involved is ~20 hours per week at three specific time frames:

a. Pre and post- evaluations to create player lists.

b. Player selection draft.

c. All Star selection and affidavit preparation.

3. Other than that most time is spent at meetings and in consult with League President.

Other Comments:

Person who chooses to be player agent is one who will neither manage nor coach as there are many inherent conflicts with both team and All Star selection (and it is against Little League bylaws).

Enclosed below is the brief description from Little League’s website; I think the above covers all the important points.

Player Agent – The player agent conducts annual tryouts, is in charge of player selection, assists the president in checking birth records and eligibility of players and generally supervises and coordinates the transfer of players to or from the Minor Leagues according to provisions of the regulations of Little League Baseball. Separate player agents may also be selected to oversee individual divisions within the league. The player agent must not manage, coach or umpire in the division over which he/she has authority, unless the local league has received explicit written permission to allow this from Little
League International.
