Hello Lincoln Glen Families!
As we approach the end of our regular season, I want to thank all of you for your support of our players, coaches, managers and umpires. One of the most difficult jobs on the field during game time is that of the umpire, especially the youth umpires.
These kid umpires are on our fields because they love baseball and are doing their best to make the correct calls, answer questions when challenged, and keep the game moving. This is NOT an easy job and it is made harder when the fans in the stands make unnecessary comments.
It was brought to my attention by our Umpire Manager that some umpires want to quit due to the “chatter they hear from the stands”. Honestly, this makes me quite sad. These are kids and this is Little League Baseball. Their calls may not be perfect, and they are doing the best they can, given there were no Umpire clinics this year due to COVID.
We talked about this at our Board meeting this week and the VP’s will speak with their division managers to make sure they are fully aware of the rules and will be there to support the kid umpires on the field.
This has been a trying 16 months, and we are all doing our best to respect and understand. Please do the same for our youth umpires.
I appreciate your support!
